Late revision of the original case. Dropped the i.LINK port and added a built-in infrared receiver for the DVD remote.

Slimline
A much smaller redesign with a top-loading disc lid, built-in Ethernet and an external power supply. The expansion bay was removed, so the internal hard drive accessory is not supported.

Further cost reductions of the slimline design. The SCPH-90000 moved the power supply back inside the case.

History
Sony reports more than 155 million units shipped, the most of any home console.
Played DVD-Video out of the box, uncommon for a game console in 2000.
2004
The slimline redesign cut the case to less than a quarter of its original volume.
Remained in production alongside the PlayStation 3 until Sony ended manufacturing in early 2013.
